Monthly Archives: April 2014

(Wednesday April 23, 2014 to Tuesday April 29, 2014)

(I was few days less that was I was thinking, so hen I saw my doctor for the firs time he corrected my due date that is now December 4, 2014, and told me exactly how many weeks I was)

32 to go.. 🙂

Baby is :

Baby is the size of a cooked  KIDNEY BEAN

During week 8, the baby is now over 1/2 inch (0.65inch) now and he (well or she!) is always moving even if I cannot feel it already. The tiny tail is almost all gone, yeah! the baby finally looks like a human.

The name is already chosen, either a boy or a girl, it will be the same, same writing too. We chose AXEL. It’s cute because my big girl Dalie is always including Axel in her stories… she include herself, her brother and the baby, how cute is that, hehe.

How I’m Feeling:

I’m feeling great, mentaly I mean, because physically.. irshhhhhhhh! I’m ALWAYS super tired (and hey, try to sleep with a 3 year old and a 1 year old tornado in the house) and ALWAYS sick or feeling sick. I have intense headache too. But every second of all that totally worth it at the end!!! Kids are the most precious gift from life. The worst weeks are the first 15 weeks, after that, it’s way better. So until then I’ll keep smiling even when I feel like crap.

How I’m Changing:

My belly is still growing, awww I love that! Otherwise I’m loosing plenty of hair.

What I’m Eating/What I’m NOT Eating:

Hum hard one.. I’m eating.. almost nothing, hahaha! Damn you sickness!! I can eat bread.. soup.. lemonade.. apples and that’s about it. Each time that I eat something else (well almost each time, sometimes I’m a bit lucky) I’ll be sick or feel like crap for the hours after finally resulting of being sick few hours later. It’s very annoying but not new for me, with all my pregnancies I was sick as Hell until week 16-17..  Awwww I wanna eat!!!!! a big bowl a pasta, hehe! 😀 I’m even taking the only medication legal to take in Canada to calm everything (sickness) and it’s not even working, haha, again not a surprise, with all my pregnancies the medication was not super effective one me. Thanks to my husband, we have good insurances because the pills cost 200$/month. Pffffffff!! Maybe it’s working very well with most of the women, but with me.. it’s working not even half of the time.

Total Weight Gained:

In fact I’m at -2 pounds compared to my pre-pregnancy weight. But hey, no surprises here, I eat less than my 3 years old and I’m always sick, haha! After all with my son, I had lost 20 pounds in the first 16 weeks…

I’m walking outside and I go outside to play with the kids. I cannot wait to stop vomiting and feeling nauseous all day long to go back on the elliptical machine and sweat!

First Doctor Appointment :

April 22, 2014. I was in fact 7 weeks and 6 days.

I was very glad to see that my new doctor had the super fancy internal ultrasound machine. I was lucky enough to see my little Axel and even in 3D. Like with each of the ultrasounds I had with my kids, it was a magical moment. I even heard the tiny heart beating fast. Awwww! I was happy and feeling some relief to know that everything was doing fine, not that I have reasons to be stressed but because until I heard the heartbeat or until I see an ultrasound or even feel the baby move, I’m always a little stressed. But now I can breath and enjoy the pregnancy.

Can’t wait to be May 20 (not only because it’s my birthday, hehe) because I’m having a 12 weeks ultrasound in a private health center. I’ll even left with a dvd of the ultrasound and tons of pictures, yay!! I’m super excited. this time it will be the first time that my husband will be there for an ultrasound.

My next doctor’s appointment is on May 27.

I love ultrasounds pictures, they are always so awesome. Not only mine, but every child! Kids are miracles, they are the precious gift from life, they are all so beautiful! I’m never tired of looking at pictures.

Each night I wake up around 3am.. go figure why always at the same time, but I’m always super nauseous.

See you next week!

(Sunday April 13, 2014 to Saturday April 19, 2014)

33 to go.. 🙂

Baby is :

Baby is the size of a CHICK PEA

This week the baby’s mouth and tongue are forming. The kidneys are now in place and next week he or she will start producing urine. He or she is tiny, but we love him (or her) already! And a lot! 🙂

How I’m Feeling:

Like garbage, hahahaha! It’s terrible, I feel like I had not sleep in years. I wake up in the morning and I’m already dead tired.. it’s really hard because hey, I cannot stay on the couch and do nothing, I have a 3 years old and a 1 year old son who started walking so he’s making messes everywhere now.. also I have to cook, take care of the house. I’m not alone, haha. But it’s life! I feel nauseous ALL DAY LONG! Not that I’m sick tons of times a day, maybe just 2-3 times, but I always feels like if I was about to be super sick.. it’s hard on me because I cannot eat a lot and I look like a zombie. I have tons of nasty headaches and at least one or two times a day I feel very dizzy. Can’t wait to see my doctor to tell him all that.

How I’m Changing:

My baby bump is still growing despite the fact that I’m losing weight.

What I’m Eating/What I’m NOT Eating:

The only things I can eat (well almost) is raw fruits and some raw veggies. My stomach is always upsets and If I eat too much or something too heavy I’ll be sick for sure. So it is fruits, water and plain toasts for me.  Go figure why, I can also eat sweet things like cookies and chocolate, hehe (YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY) There is plenty of odors that are so nasty right now, including coffee, peanut butter.. in fact all the smells are super intense and I’m always having super intense headaches. Still craving for oranges.

Total Weight Gained:

One day before ending week 7, I was at -0.5 pound.. so I’m lighter than before getting pregnant. Well it’s not a big surprise, I feel like crap all day long, haha!

Give me a break, mannn I’m always sick and I don’t sleep well and in addition to that I had a nasty flu for like 2 weeks… I’m sooo tired, hahaha! Well it’s now beginning of week 8 and I feel better, so I’ll start working out downstairs again and not only walking outside. YAY!

First Doctor Appointment :

April 22, 2014 at 8 weeks

At Hotel-Dieu-De-Sorel’s Hospital

I can get up 2-4 times a night, sometimes more. But when I wake up I never feel great, I’m always super tired.

See you next week!

Vegan Double Chocolate Cookies

Being pregnant is not easy everyday, haha! It’s weird, it’s not like my other two kids were I was sick all day long, now I just cannot eat.. well I can but raw fruits and veggies. That’s almost it. Welllll there is chocolate too (go figure!) . I made these cookies the other day, before starting to feel like pure crap and they were DELICIOUS!!!!! My husband is such a big fan, the next morning there was no cookies left, hahaha, I guess it’s a sign they were good.

8 very large cookies

* 1/2 cup chocolate chips (to melt)

* 1/2 cup sunflower milk

* 2/3 unsweetened apple sauce

* 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

* 1 1/3 cup sugar

* 2 cups flour

* 2 tablespoons cornstarch

* 2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

* 2/3 cup pure cocoa powder

* 1/2 to 2/3 cup chocolate chips

* Preheat oven to 350′F

* In a bowl (in the microwave or with a double boiler) melt 1/2 cup chocolate with half the sunflower milk.

* Add the rest of the sunflower milk, apple sauce, vanilla, sugar and cornstarch.

* Grab handfuls of cookie dough and flatten them on a baking sheet. You’ll see it’s pretty sticky!!

* Cook for 13-14 minutes. They will still look a little soft in the middle but they are perfect, while cooling they will become just the perfect chewy cookie!

* Remove from the oven, let cool on an oven rack and Enjoy!

Vegan Barley & Sweet Potato Chili

That recipe was tonight’s dinner.

Oh by the way, barley tend to absorb the liquid a lot, so if you put leftovers in the fridge remember to add some broth before re heating it, otherwise it will be dry, hehe.

* Olive oil

* 1 large onion

* 3-4 garlic cloves, minced

* salt and pepper (to taste)

* 1 tablespoon cumin

* 1 teaspoon dried oregano

* 1 teaspoon chili powder

* 3/4 cup barley

* 3 1/2 cups broth

* In a pan, heat oil. Cook the onions, garlic, spices and tomatoes for 2-3 minutes. Add the barley. Cook for another 2 minutes.

* In the slow cooker, combine all the ingredients and mix well.

* Close the lid and cook for about 6 hours on low.

* Serve and Enjoy!

Week 6

(Sunday April 6, 2014 to Saturday April 12, 2014)

34 to go.. 🙂

Baby is :

Baby is the size of a GREEN PEA

The nose, mouth, and ears are beginning to take shape. The baby’s heart is beating twice faster than a normal adult heart.

Blood is also beginning to course through his body.

How I’m Feeling:

Mentally, I’m feeling great, but physically.. irshhhh! All the nausea thing started this week. Few days ago I started to feel weird all day long, each day was worst and worst.. Saturday was the worst! Now I started vomiting.. how fun is that, haha! but heh I’m used to it, with both of my kids I was sick as Hell, from morning to time to go to bed. I have some cramping going on, bu nothing too serious.

How I’m Changing:

Well except the fact that I’ve lost 2 pounds, I feel the same as last week.

What I’m Eating/What I’m NOT Eating:

I cannot eat peanut butter anymore.. just the smell of it makes me sick. Usually I eat some each morning. Like with my two other kids I eat a lot of oranges/orange juice. With them it was my only craving. I’m curious to see if it will be the only one this time too.

peanut orange

Total Weight Gained:

I checked that this morning (Saturday) and I’ve lost 2 pounds since last week.. so I’m back at the weight I was before knowing I was pregnant. I guess it was bloating or water.. you know something like that.

Still working out. Well not these 2 last days, I have a flu and I feel like pure crap. Otherwise I’m still doing elliptical and walking outside for long walks with the kids. I feel so great when I exercise (well not when I have a flu, hahahahah)

First Doctor Appointment :

April 22, 2014 at 8 weeks

At Hotel-Dieu-De-Sorel’s Hospital

I can wake up tons of time each night, not only to go pee (hahahaha) but for unexplained reasons. Maybe the flu isn’t helping at all.

See you next week!

Week 5

(Sunday March 30, 2014 to Saturday April 5, 2014)

35 to go.. 🙂

Baby is :

Baby is the size of a SESAME SEED

This week our baby’s tiny heart started beating. Life is beautiful and so amazing at the same time. so tiny.. but already having a heartbeat. My heart is beating for you little baby. We already love you a lot! Bringing life into this world is the greatest blessing!!!

Major organs such as kidneys are starting to grow! The neural tube is closing this week. Little baby is growing fast, really fast!

How I’m Feeling:

I’m feeling great, well except for minors things, but I cannot say a word, I wanted to have a 3rd child so! hehe! I’m still super excited! Not only because I’m pregnant and that makes me super SUPER happy, but also because my big boy Auguste will turn 1 in less than 2 weeks. Awww time is going by so fast!!

How I’m Changing:

My belly is still growing (it’s even faster than with my 2nd pregnancy!! It’s just super crazy!), I’m on the edge of having to  wear maternity jeans. One thing is sure, I cannot wear a belt anymore! I experience very weird dizziness periods.. I’ll have to talk about this with my doctor. hope it’s nothing serious. Since today (April 5) I’m more exhausted then ever.. I would totally fall asleep anywhere I sit.

What I’m Eating/What I’m NOT Eating:

Still eating the same. The morning sickness didn’t started yet. (but for how long, haha) I ate a lot of cantaloupe, haha! But heh it’s ok, cantaloupe is good for pregnant ladies. I started noticing that certain smells are very intense now. I always had a very strong and powerful sense of smell, but now it’s crazier than ever. Not that the smells are making me sick (well not yet), it’s more that every smell is now so intense!

Total Weight Gained:

Since I’ve learned I was pregnant (week 4) I had gained 2 pounds total… damn it’s so odd. I eat less than 1300 calories a day + all my daily exercise (so it burns a lot of calories) and I still manage to gain weight like crazy.. No one can say I’m not pregnant! I cannot wait to see my doctor this month to talk to him about all this.

Still working out each day, I’m doing some elliptical or a long walk outside with the kids (well except when it’s raining or snowing!) Exercise is good for the baby, for me and good for my general mood.

First Doctor Appointment :

April 22, 2014 at 8 weeks

At Hotel-Dieu-De-Sorel’s Hospital

I’m still waking up super early (go figure), but now I have to go pee during the night, hahaha!

See you next week!

Vegan Brussels Sprout Curry (Wonderbag)

This is the first recipe I tried with my brand new Wonderbag. Let me tell you that it wasn’t a mistake to try this particular one. It was DELICIOUS!!! even my husband who usually hates Brussels sprouts a lot, loved that dish!!!

A big thank you to a new friend of mine, Ann, from Germany. We were talking about the wonderbag back in the days and it became available in Germany before here in Canada so she had the chance to try recipes before me, hehe. She shared this one with me. I use less brussels sprouts, use two different colors of bell peppers and use less hot pepper, but it’s still the same awesome recipe. THANKS ANN! 😀

Awwwww I love my Wonderbag!

Once again, go take a look at their page, you will learn more about this super awesome thing called Wonderbag!

I’m so excited!!! I received my Wonderbag yesterday. YEAHHH!!!!! 😀 I’m talking about it for months to people around me, hahaha! Not my fault it was that long for being available in Canada. The other day I went on Amazon to see if it was available.. and… IT WAS!!! I was almost crying, haha! The crazy part.. there was only 7 available for all Canada! I was lucky that day I guess. So my dad ordered it as one of my upcoming birthday gift, muahah. That’s way too awesome!

Still don’t know what is a Wonderbag?

I strongly suggest you go take a look at their pages, it’s very well done, well explained, you’ll see, you will want one too!

Wonderbag Blog

To give you a better idea, a Wonderbag is an African portable slow cooker who doesn’t need electricity to cook. Well in fact you need to boil your dish first (so only few minutes on a stove) and the bag will continue to cook your meal for up to 12 hours without needing electricity. It’s not only perfect for you kitchen, but also for camping or for bringing a meal to someone’s house. You cannot overcook your food, you cannot burn your food.. it’s just the perfect invention!

How does it work exactly? It’s super simple, you’ll see!

It’s always easier to understand with pictures. It’s so easy to use, even I kid could use it.

You boil your meal,

You put the lid on,

You put the pot in the wonderbag,

You close the wonderbag and you let your meal cook.

The best part in all that… no it’s not the fact that it is super eco friendly and super awesome.. it’s the fact that for each wonderbag that people buy, the company donate one to an African family. How awesome is that! So in the end 50$Ca is not that much when you know that there will be one donated..

I tried a recipe (I will post it right after this post) yesterday in it and it was a total success! I cannot wait to use it again.. and again… and again!!!!

What are you waiting for? 😀

Vegan Red Lentil Sausages

It’s been a while since I wanted to try this sausage recipe from a big book I have. (BIG VEGAN). (By the way, it’s an awesome book)

I stopped procrastinating and I cooked them this morning. I did some minor changes (like for the herbs, non dairy milk…) but I was soooooo glad I tried it. It’s an awesome recipe. I had no choice to share it with you all. The result is wonderful, it’s exactly like a real meaty sausage (not that I never ate vegan sausage before!!! I just never did this one) I’m sure my husband will like them as much as I did when he will be back from work. I convinced him to try vegan sausages because he’s a meat eater and he love sausages, but it’s full of fat and he’s kind of dieting so… I thought it would be a fantastic idea for him.

So tonight’s dinner was this vegan sausage recipe and some Cajun potatoes on the side (you can see my recipe HERE). I’m so excited, that I already want to try another kind, haha!

In the book the recipe is for 4 sausages, I decided to make 8 because I don’t live alone (there is my husband, myself, Dalie and Auguste) so there will be enough for more than one meal. I kept some in the fridge and the rest is in the freezer.

You should give it a try!  🙂

8 large sausages

* 2 cups dried red lentils

* 2 cups oats

* 1 cup all purposed flour

* 1 cup wheat gluten flour

* 1 cup plain sunflower milk

(on any other non dairy milk)

* 1/2 cup nutritional yeast

* 1/2 cup canola oil

* 4 tablespoon soy sauce

(the real deal, not the super salty version)

* 3 teaspoon liquid smoke

(I used mesquite)

* 2 teaspoons salt

* 1 teaspoon dried oregano

* 1 teaspoon dried basil

* 1 tablespoon paprika

* 1 teaspoon garlic powder

* 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

* Cheesecloth

redlentils oats

* Soak the lentils in water overnight.

* Drain the lentils. In a food processor, grind the lentils until you reach a smooth paste.

* Transfer the paste in a large bowl. Add all the remaining ingredients. Combine well.

* If you have a steamer, use it, otherwise I don’t have one so I use a good old pot of boiling water with a metal colander on top, with a lid, hehe. It worked well.  Now is the time to start making the water boil (or starting your steamer)

* Cut 8  pieces of cheesecloth (around 20 cm each) You can rub some oil on the cloth to prevent the sausage to stick to it. (I did it!) Form 8 sausages. Wrap them in cheese cloth. You can tie the end with strings or can fold the cheesecloth like I did so I didn’t needed to tie the ends.

* Steam for 45-50 minutes or until the sausage is firm to touch.

* Let cool a little bit before unwrapping them.

* Serve and Enjoy.

You can keep them for a week in the fridge and you can also freeze them (this is what I did)

Cajun Potatoes

Tonight we were eating vegan sausages, so I decided to make some potatoes as a side dish. It’s delicious and super easy!

You can adjust the quantity of seasoning you’re using depending on how hot and spicy you like your potatoes… the quantity I used makes HOT potatoes, hehe.

* 2 pounds small potatoes

(I kept the skin on)

* Olive oil

* 1 – 1 1/2 Cajun seasoning

(you can see my recipe HERE)

* 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley

smallpotatoes italianparsley

* Preheat oven to 350’F

* Cut all the potatoes in four and place them in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil. Add the seasoning. Combine well until every potato is coated.

* Spread out on a baking sheet.

* Cook for 45-55 minutes. I turned them at half the cooking time.

* Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley.

* Serve and enjoy!
